  • @TommyZTrains Hi Tom, Joe is ILSRWY4, and what I'm saying is old engines can preform good on dirtier track, new engines work great at low speed and power with much higher power and a clean track, that's a fact. Ask Joe maybe he can help ya. Oh yeah Joe also said that he's seen an MTH premier ES44 with new 6 axle trucks easily pulling almost 100 cars on its own "WOW"!! But anyways after Joe cleaned his rails and got more power he says his engines will crawl slower than 3 smph.

  • @bradstrains Respectfully disagree Brad, I think that's dead wrong. (I bang track signals of all 10's and have never cleaned my track) *If ya put these at the point (The Conrail's) ... and then say those 4 Chessie's (a fairly new clip I just put up) You'll see the difference immead. This topic's widely discussed on the "OGR Forum" and "Model Train Journal" and is known to be a big issue with "HEAVY Trains". (Who's "Joe" ???) ***PS: My power Supply's are 30 amp. *** :-) Best, Tom

  • @TommyZTrains Hi Tom, my friend Joe (you know him) says poor low speed isn't the trucks fault, but if the rails are dirty and there isn't enough power provided to the tracks for the # of engines and the amount of power you're applying then it won't have good low speed, he said he cleaned his track and bought a bigger transformer and it will crawl. I hope this helped if you ever get back into trains.

  • @bradstrains Good thought ... "possibly" !! :- )

  • @TommyZTrains Those older trucked engines have much bigger flywheels maybe that's the difference?

  • @TommyZTrains I think wiring can be fixed ( : I quote you "and man can they pull" "On MTH Trains SD-90's fight the BIG ONE !". Are you saying older ones pull better?

  • @bradstrains IC ... Put em under a heavy load tho, "they'll surge terribly". The wiring's too dainty. :-)

  • I can understand you have had problems with the new ones, but I think that they're more reliable than the old ones, with there 2 pick up rollers per truck VS 1 pick up roller per truck. That only matters if you have a less reliable track system like my own, so the 4 pick ups rollers really come in handy. I also would have to respectfully disagree in the low speed operation, when I had my AC6000 it was very good at low speeds, but I agree about the wiring, I had issues with it too.

  • @bradstrains Opinions are many, mines that the NEW STYLE Trucks are Terrible. Your right Brad, the originals had those plastic "blind" wheels, but I remove them immead. and install new flanged STEAL ones. (Eliminates hopping) *The New style truck wiring melts / overheats, and most any engines a terrible performer under 4 SMPH. (the new ones) Too sum it up, I like the old period ! :-) (with the juice)

  • Hey Tom, if you look close at the wheels in the first scenes it had plenty of bight down on the track (cause that spider juice), but there wasn't enough watts on the track to turn all those motors! They weren't slipping. I think these newer SD90s haul better than the older ones, because these newer ones have all wheels geared, the older ones have those blind wheels on the outside of the trucks.
