I saw them 4 times live, between 2007-2011 and his voice never really was good, but I think burton rocks anyway. He "sings" with passion and thats what matters!!!

It's not bad singing, it's sing in the bass tones. Sounds different in studio because he probably uses some technics to get to the higher pitch.
