Ideas for a future sentry:
- Level 1 - Flare Gun (fast-shooting like the regular lvl1 Sentry but with flares)
- Level 2 - Dual Flamethrowers like in this video.
- Level 3 - Added Napalm / Fireballs for ranged splash damage like the rockets.
- On Death - Fiery explosion which burns all enemies around, including cloaked spies!

This is a Team Fortress 2 style fire sentry gun. I've only animated the untextured version unfortunately so I put an image of the finished version at the end.

Done for a small cgsociety.org Game Art Challenge for January, 2008 (which I won). The challenge was to have a box turn into something in the style of TF2 build animations.

Made using 3DS Max for the modeling and animation, DeepUV for the UV mapping, Photoshop for the texturing and Particle Illusion and FumeFX for the fire effect.

Rendered using an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 in about 3 hours using VRay and motion blur at 640x480.

A sentry with miniguns are basicly engineer mixed with Heavy. And the sentry with miniguns AND rockets are basicly engineer mixed with soldier and heavy.

So why not a flamethrower sentry?
