Viking Exploding Jack-o-Lantern

Great Science Demonstration for Halloween! The "secret ingredient" is placed inside of a pre-carved jack-o-lantern with the pumpkin pieces still in it. When water is added, acetylene gas is produced. There is a small hole in the back which my thumb is placed over during the reaction. Once the pumpkin is filled with acetylene (and oxygen that was already in there) the combustion reaction is ignited through the small port in the back. A hand must be placed on the top of the jack-o-lantern in order to maximize the explosive pressure of the facial pieces. Music in the demonstration provided by Amon Amarth.
