i claim this swamp for poland. LOL

The scene where he is pounding on the wall and Groper looks scared all of a sudden. I'm pretty sure the Groper just realized he is the "other" Col. Kane aka Killer Kane.

This was, without a doubt, one of the great Neville Brand's best performances. What a great, underrated actor...

quaestor, perhaps Histrionics was the wrong choice of words. But it does stand out amongst the preternaturally calm performance throughout the film
There's an even better scene, earlier on, in which Groper gives Kane a hard time about something. Groper's face freezes up, then dissolves into utter fear and shock, and he simply says, "Yes, sir, whatever you say sir" or words to that effect. The best part is that since Kane's face is shot from behind, we have no idea what Groper is really reacting to... which is far more effective than the histrionics in the scene posted above, however fun to watch they are.

In the context of Keach's overall subdued performance and what is going on with the character I wouldn't call what he did here histrionics. The outburst is well earned and tightly modulated, this isn't a soap opera tantrum. It's also one of only two sequences where his darker nature surfaces, it HAD to be a volcanic moment.
The other scene you mention is the one where he confronts Fairbanks about "the properties of the hammer". Funny yet chilling, another great moment.

Stacy Keach's finest, most resonant, arresting performance ever, and he did it in less than a minute. Now that's acting.

Well said. It reminded me a bit of Peter O'Toole's slow, mounting howl of rage towards the end of The Ruling Class.
