Ja geweldig. Ik heb deze lp in 1968 gekocht en in 1975 of zo eens uitgeleend en nooit meer terug gekregen. Dankzij internet nu overal te zien en te horen. Bravo msternbe!

how do you think that he plays that transition started at 3:05 ? he plays tone, then plays the same tone but he lowers it for quarter tone by pressure of the air, then he plays half tone down and lowers for quarter tone it so on....

@PWNSTRAMINATION Why would you want this music to be 'easy on the ears' ? What are you an old man ? You want 'easy on the ears' go listen to James Taylor and Vivaldi.

I find this so interesting because I bought the album, but now that I listen to it, there is nothing Turkish about it, it sounds so much more East Indian at the beginning. We were so naive about the Middle-East then.
It still rocks and is amazing! Thank you for the memory.

There's no such thing--it's 7/8 or 7/4.

The brilliantly innovative Don Ellis Orchestra. Heard them play this piece at the long gone Basin Street West as an opener to the first set. We were sitting at a front table 3 feet from the sax section, same as we did for any big band or headliners that came to town. Needless to say, we stayed for all 3 sets! Amazing orchestra!
I couldn't count until I heard Don Ellis

Isn't it called a gamelan orchestra where the instruments are all tuned slightly above or below the actual pitch? To give a supposedly richer texture? Traditional Middle Eastern merthod, I think
