Rare video of Canned Heat playing live their song "On The Road Again". This was in early 1970 of their European tour. The blind owl plays a wonderful harp part.

sorry my friends it is not payroll. It IS FAIRO. Used by blues man Tommy Johnson, Whose song was used for the name Canned Heat. Alan Wilson used this term knowing blues tradition. It means lover or sweetheart.

Chuckle....Quite a debate on this! But you`re right, the word is "fayro".Although "payroll" fits better in the context of the preceding phrase in the song,"fayro" was an established term for lover among the great bluesmen that Alan studied so assiduously.
First rate harp work on this version -Alan plays very well. But I like it less than other people do.Vestine-absent here-was a better lead guitar than Mandel. Also, the absence of the tembura removes the deep mysticism of the original version.
