@asifilich i mean this has edges, but the edges keep extending so that you don't walk off the edge.
So i'm not entirely sure what you mean, can you explain?

@Shakespeare1612 SIX directions? what? Sure a TORUS shaped design would be able to rotate in 4 directions without stretching, or a circular disc would work if stretching was allowed.
But SIX?
Man i can't even fathom how that would work. Do you have any ideas?

hmmm, wouldnt it make more sense to have more edges? so as to increase directions and decrease the amount of effort the engine/s (or whatever it might use) have to put out? or am i speaking nonesense?

Why not fold the these pieces underneath the floor in continuous belts, that run in 6 different directions?
-
yeah but the concept of moving units itself is a pliable one. something similar to this might eventually become the most efficient

if you could only lower and raise individual parts to simulate stairs etc...
i thought of this idea as well, but the movement of individual parts seems tedious. also, directions of movement seems limited unless rigorous piece movement patterns are formulated for each degree of movement.

thank you for your comments. this animation is obviously just an illustration of the concept with many of the mechanical parts hidden to clarify the tile movement
