For The Fallen: Tangled Web

A reminder to our former leaders of the debt they still owe to our servicemen and women.


Tangled Web

A little boy in shirt and tie
stood in front of microphones
and asked us all to swallow a lie,
a bloated, putrid, long dead fly
he plucked from a tangled web.

Well, little boy in shirt and tie,
our x-ray eyes could see your bones;
they were hollow like those words that slipped
so neat and polished from your lips
and onto history's page.

But little boy in shirt and tie,
as you played at soldiers with others' lives
did you forget the sharpened steel
you brandished with religious zeal
is made of fragile boys and girls
still wrestling phantoms in dusty worlds?

And you could repay the debt you owe
by greeting every coffin home.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is to donate the profits from his memoirs 'The Journey' to a sports centre for injured soldiers.

A spokesman said Mr Blair would hand over the £4.6 m advance plus all royalties to honour "their courage and sacrifice".

The book will be published on the 1st September and the money is believed to be the biggest single donation ever received by the Legion, and will go towards the £25m Battle Back Challenge Centre, due to open in summer 2012.

Like millions of others in the UK, I could see through my country's flimsy excuses in going to war. My deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen.
