Gender Differences in Multiple Sclerosis-Mayo Clinic

Elizabeth Shuster, M.D., a neurologist at Mayo Clinic in Florida, discusses the gender differences associated with multiple sclerosis. MS is a disease of the central nervous system that includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves. MS and related diseases are called demyelinating diseases because they result from damage to myelin (the insulating covering of nerves). There are several types of multiple sclerosis. This neurologic disorder affects more women than men and gender differences are reviewed.
