My favorite recording is Oistrakh and Kyung Wha Chung, there are several others worth mentioning like Repin, Perlman and a few more I forgot to mention.

This recording is a little over 11 minutes so I had to chop it into two pieces, the first video features the first section with the end cut off, the second video cuts part of the beginning.

This was ripped from a 2 cd set called "Zino Francescatti Great Violin Concertos" and was recorded Nov 5 1950 with The Philadelphia PO and Eugene Ormandy conducting.

I was a little suprised to see this out of print but this upload is to display even more of the unique tone of Mr Zino Francescatti, whose family as I understand are a decendant of the only pupil Paganini ever had. I found a picture of his violin, the Hart Strad and included that in the series of photos used for this video. I understand Salvatore Accardo now owns this violin so in a few days I will upload Mr Accardo playing Vivaldi more then likely using the same violin you hear on this recording.

I also included a photo of Francescatti with a very young Michael Rabin, I heard someone say Francescatti was recording some Paganini and he said you should hear Rabin play the Caprices and thats why Rabin's caprices were recorded at an early age.

Alot of people also rave about his recording of the Paganini Concerto but I think the best things Francescatti recorded were Beethoven and Lalo Concertos, I believe there is a video you can get of him playing the Beethoven Concerto still?

I have uploaded rare out of print and unreleased recordings that are difficult to find, I hope you like them.

Since they are so difficult to find no one should mind me uploading them, if you have issues with me uploading them please send me a message and I will remove them.

  • It is always just when I am about to write Francescatti off, a recording like this comes back around to remind us all of that weirdly exquisite sound he had. Thanks.

  • i never really knew how to describe his sound either and i know what you mean about writing him off, alot of his interpretations dont do alot for me but weirdly exquisite is a good way of putting it i think i know what you mean there

i do however encourage everyone to hear his beethoven recording i think its the best thing he ever did and one of the 2 best recordings ever made of that concerto

  • WHOA, I was already a fan of his 1950 recording with Ormandy, but this recording with Bernstein is jaw-dropping...any chance of uploading the whole thing?

Also, this video really looks and sounds high quality; new format or encoding?

  • done and posted as a video response to this vid - this was ripped from a 2 cd set called "Zino Francescatti Great Violin Concertos" and was recorded Nov 5 1950 with The Philadelphia PO and Eugene Ormandy conducting.

i just used windows movie maker and ripped the cd using a program called "free rip" - its a free program and can be found doing a simple google search

  • This fabulous and previously unknown recording to me joins Neveu and Oistrakh/Munch as my favorite Chausson Poemes. Francescatti establishes a unique, otherwordly and intimate atmosphere here, matched every step of the way by Maestro Ormandy and his amazing orchestra.

  • This is one of my favorite recordings of the Chausson, along with Neveu's.

    Thanks for posting it, rareviolintreasures.

  • mmmm. My Favorite Chausson Poeme - Zino Francescatti. I used to have this on LP.

  • Trop présent,un manque de rêverie.Celà reste du grand violon mais un peu trop brillant,la couleur devrait être plus diaphane.

  • listen Enescu and Thibeaud their version is the best,

  • This Francescatti performance is indeed one of the best, but I agree with you. Enescu's amazing build up of the work, his colors range and the exotic flair, which really matches the Turgeniev love story which inspired Chausson to write his Poeme, are unsurpassed. The live performance of Thibaud with Ansermet is also interesting.

  • check Enescu too.He expores more than anyone the hidden colours of this piece.

  • Certified Intergalactic! Stupendous! The Francescatti Star!

  • you guys should listen Enescu's version

  • OH MY GOD! this is like walking through a painting....this is killer

  • I look forward to hearing about it. It's always good to get first-hand accounts of great concerts, especially if there aren't any recordings of those concerts.
