Dutch producer Boy Hagemann aka Rex Mundi is a man who certainly needs no introduction when it comes to Coldharbour followers. Already achieving iconic status with his efforts on Perspective and his heroic performance with the lovely Susana on Nothing at All, expectations are always at an extremely high level for a Rex Mundi production on Coldharbour Recordings.
However, in late 2009, he was sewing the seeds to make his mark with one of the premier moments in 2010, by working on "Opera of Northern Ocean". The results were nothing short of outstanding.
Upon receiving the track, Markus Schulz claimed he had the original on repeat for three days straight! Tongues were wagging following its debut on Global DJ Broadcast, and picked up the Global Selection accolade in its first attempt. The appearance of the original on Las Vegas '10 solidified its almost immediate iconic status, with many earmarking it as their personal pick for track of 2010.
But with the original soothing the ears of everyone on radio thanks to its deep and melodic beauty, Markus sought out someone who could take these elements and turn Opera of Northern Ocean into a big room monster, fit to grace the stages of the Ultra Music Festival, Trance Energy or Bal en Blanc. And he turned to another Dutch star who has made waves throughout Coldharbour thanks to his remix work on Mike Foyle's Deadly Nightshade, the hugely talented Phynn.
The Global DJ Broadcast World Tour episode from San Francisco was not just signifiant due to the debut of Markus' own Dark Heart Waiting, it also featured the first play of Phynn's take on Opera, and received rapturous receptions straight away. Now a staple in Markus Schulz's livesets, Phynn's remix coupled with the original makes Opera of Northern ocean one of the strongest releases in Coldharbour Recordings history.
Now with the release imminent, it looks set to dominate dancefloors throughout the busy Ibiza season and beyond this summer. For Rex Mundi, his iconic story continues to be told.
