Put to shame in what sense? A diesel would pull the same train just as easily and require less fuel and substantially less maintenance. Sure, the 9F looks and sounds better but the railway is a transport system, not a beauty contest.

No the diesel hauled the train back after each run but wasn't helping.

I assume the diesel was also providing the brakes. The rolling stock will be air-braked but the Black Prince is, presumably, vacuum-brake only.

True. 5197 is air braked (see other video) but 92203 is Vac only.
