What a strange world we live in. Full of holy miracles.

Isn't it amazing how God arranges it that so that miraculous images of the Virgin Mary only turn up in parts of the world which venerate Mary rather than in places where veneration of Mary is seen as popish idolatry. Can you imagine the look on the Reverend Ian Paisley's face if he found an image of the virgin Mary in his bathroom?

Across the Muslim world Allah never produces images of his face or that of his prophet but instead limits himself to Arabic calligraphy. Do these messages actually say what those reading them declare that they say? My Arabic is not up to the task. I can't help wondering if it would ever be possible to find an aubergine or a cow whose message could be read by normal optical character recognition software. I suspect not. Indeed YouTube themselves rely on the human brain's uncanny ability to detect messages in images to determine the difference between somebody with a lot to comment on and a spambot.

Surely these miraculous images only demonstrate wishful thinking on the part of those viewing them.

What kind of a god would create a world, hide away invisibly, talk to lone scientifically ignorant lunatics in the desert and then draw pictures of his son and his son's mother on bathroom walls? Surely if that's the kind of god who made this universe we're all screwed and we might as well just try to enjoy ourselves because there's not a chance for us to make any sense out the place.

What is God's thing with aubergines? Cut them one way and they say God. Or Gid. Cut them the other way and they give messages in Arabic. Apparently.

Still maybe he's got a sense of humour after all.

  • As Dawkins puts it. We tend to see familiarity in random shapes. You often mistake a shadow for a burglar, but rarely a burglar for a shadow. Animals that mistake predators for shadows tend not to be as successful as those who experience false positives.

Mistake a shadow for a burglar you waste 5 minutes of your life. Mistake a burglar for shadow and you might lose your life.

It's beneficial, until it is used in religion that is :-)

  • Quite.

  • LOL I love the last photo.

  • Yes, it's nonsense. That's exactly why I chose the photo of the dog's butt. It's mohammud/jesus christ. My dog's butt looks like Bjork in an anorak.

  • Apophenia, a form of Pareidolia, is a type 1 statistical error ie a false positive

Some related phenomena are - Clustering illusion, Confirmation bias, Delusions of reference, Forer effect, Reality tunnel, Synchronicity...etc

This is a miracle for Atheists watch?v=RVFpjj594IQ
