The case will remain on hold unless new evidence emerges. McCann and her family--who are from Britain--were in a southern region of Portugal in May of last year when she went missing. She was just shy of her fourth birthday. The attorney general's office says the 14-month investigation uncovered no evidence of a crime by the three people named as suspects. That includes Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry and local man Robert Murat. Prosecutors had been reviewing the final police report into what happened to McCann.Madeleine's parents have waged an international campaign to find their daughter. They have said that they would continue their efforts, even if the formal investigation was closed. \ ___ ___, The Associated Press.
