The Su-47 "Berkut" is a 5th generation test bed aircraft designed to demonstrate features to be present on the upcoming Su-50.

The Su-47 is not, and will not be a production aircraft (atleast that is what we have been told)

It was released in 2002 after Sukhoi redesigned it from the S-37 airframe. It was built as Russia's principal testbed for composite materials and sophisticated fly-by-wire control systems.
It's forward sweeping wings allow for superb manuverability at sub-sonic speeds which is where dogfights usually take place. With a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 the Berkut is fast, and deadly.

The forward swept wings and vectored thrust engines enable the Berkut to alter its angle of attack quikly without sacrificing its manuverability at subsonic speed.

+ higher lift-to-drag ratio
+ higher capacity in dogfight maneuvers
+ higher range at subsonic speed
+ improved stall resistance and anti-spin characteristics
+ improved stability at high angles of attack
+ a lower minimum flight speed
+ a shorter take-off and landing distance

The Su-47 retains all of these. The cockpit of the Su-47 is also revolutionary in its own right, as it is designed around pure pilot comfort. The motivation behind this is, that the pilot will be capable of firing offensive missiles or defense and evasive manuvering while sustaining high G-forces. The aircraft is equipt with a new ejection seat and life support system which will be present on the soon to come
Su-50.

Su-47 is a stealth designed aircraft which is also geared towards testing material for the Su-50. It has 14 hardpoints, 6 internal, and 8 on the wings.

Air-to-Air - R-77, R-77PD, R-73, K-74
Air-to-Surface - X-29T, X-29L, X-59M, X-31P, X-31A, KAB-500, KAB-1500
It is also equipt with a 30mm GSh-30-1 cannon

All of these features are to be seen on the new Su-50 which is said to be ready and waiting for its thrust vectoring engines. Its maiden flight will occure sometime between October 15th, and December 20th of 2009 and begin mass scale production in 2010-2011

  • And russian aircrafts are better

  • I'm not russian, but I get angry from american assholes. Stop writing shits about Russia. Russia had the first satellite, Russia had tank and submarine before USA. USA isn't as poverful as it seems.

  • Piękny ;-)

  • @we3575

Any basic similarities in appearance is solid proof that the design is copied? I can tell that you're not very bright, so much for living in a "developed country", amusing, I must admit, carry on.

  • thí song: moscow never sleeps

  • @m174100 LMAO! Since when? Every American plane that has come out in the last 80 years the Russians have copied. The only American fighter that was ripped off from the Russians was the F-86 Sabre. And Russian technology?! HAHAHAHA! You people make me laugh. You live in still developing country and most of you are poor.

  • @SuperFinnish All planes, yes.

  • @we3575 Most(if not all) jet planes are based on German WW2 designs. LOL.

  • we3575 Fuck yourself.. A lot of american planes are copied from russians, or were made with using of russian tehnologyes.Americans can do good things, but in common it is fat and stupied nation...

  • Fuck Russians. All of modern Russian planes are copies of American planes.
