Here's my shot at a clawhammer version of "Soldier's Joy" on my newly acquired 1967 Gibson RB-170 banjo. I don't know why the sound transmogrified around :10, seems to get better later on...

  • @Lincoln5string no problem. If you're ever in the buffalo area contact me, we could pick.

  • Cool. Thanks for the info. Gibsons - great sounding banjos all.

  • @Moonchalice Thanks! I guess I like to focus on the picking...

  • @Lincoln5string Thanks! Sounds like you have the 175-the 170 is pretty much the same banjo with a standard neck. I've seen some 170s and 175s with the archtop looking rings but mine doesn't have one, just a brass hoop on top of the rim which I've also seen....

  • Nice version. Nice banjo. I have an RB-175. Or if I remember right it's called RB-175. It's a long neck with arch top tonering. Is yours a long neck or regular scale? Just trying to sort out differences in models.

  • You're doing just great. I wish you wouldn't cut your face out of the video. =)
