More than 500 people in Irvine and 300 people in Santa Ana gather on Tax Day to share their dislike of multiple topics, including corporate bail outs, the health-care bill, high taxes, government spending and more at Tea Party rallies.

Big government is perpetuated by a complacent majority that fail to realize the obvious, that the institution is an illusion created by a minority to live at the majority's expense. Banks... bailed out. Auto.. bailed out. Never ending wars... constantly funded. All this because of big government. And all that was worth a road that could have been produced by a corporation? All that was worth a failed public education system, that replaced a working private system? Some progress.

@73goodfella. The Tea Party is the rebirth of natural which is your right to your life, liberty, and property. The Tea Party is also the rebirth of the study of many great thinker's ideological positions such as Aristotle, John Locke, Frederik Bastiat who strongly influenced the debates that created the Constitution. Big government is nothing but layers of bureaucracy socially redistributing wealth. Big government misallocates economic resources.

"Tea Party" is a Big Lie. It's not the simple 1700s. We now have millions of life-saving water-food-air-safety, police, military, etc. provided by "big governmetn". (We the People). During the real Tea Party there were no freeways, bridges nor school that allow real tax-paying patriots to work & contribute to the superior progress this nation has. I've never whined about paying taxes as without regulations many of us wouldn't be here. Due to Cheney deregulations the Gulf is an oil pool."

100% American Pay hidden taxes of inflation from the Federal Reserve so tax cuts are simply an illusion for sheeple to believe every little thing is ok. I'm the guy who opened on this tax day protest for the whole first minute.
So oolong and american stews... did you know the dollar has lost 95% of its purchasing power since 1913? Probably not and were paying for it because were FORCED to conduct all business in the dollar by means of the Legal Tender Law.

I know "buying into the system" keeps costs lower, but I don't agree with a mandate. In that case a public option or single payer makes much more sense.
You're right about infringments on search and seizure, habeas corpus, what you do in your home with drugs, gay marriage, etc. The government should not be involved in those choices.
WHAT I DON'T SEE are tea partiers holding up signs protesting these things... Instead they ignorantly protesting the tax cuts they just got.

@oolong2 One example would be the government now mandating that you purchase a product. But that is just a current example, the previous administration passed laws that infringe on your right to be secured against unreasonable search and seizure. How about your liberty to ingest any substance of your choice as long as it is within your own home? You are looking at this as reactionary, the infringement of liberty has been creeping for some time. Just be glad someone is standing up now.

Most americans have recieved a tax cut for 2009. 98% of those who pay taxes are paying less. This is a fact.
The only people that are paying a little more (like 3% more) are those who are wealthy.
Another fact... Taxes today are on average MUCH lower than the entire history of the IRS....
What "liberty" has been taken away from you exactly? Examples?
