We've got our sticky hands on the alpha boards. Eben talks a bit about the board, and points out some of the details of the hardware. Wailing background noises are my cat, and the clunking in the closeups are a sign from above that I need a new video camera.

  • @achum2sum It is bases on and ARM architecture. There are 2 main architectures, x86 for most PCs and Laptops. ARM is used for mobile phones and tablets. The new windows 8 will support both but it wont be able to run on a pi as there isnt enough ram or processor power.

  • Wikipedia lists the OS that are compatible with this, I didnt see Windows any version as compatible. Why? Any beginners guides published for this so us novices can act as if we are smart like Eben?

  • would it be possible to install DOS on it?

  • @ImTheDaveman

It will eventually get support for most things. Every nerd/geek/genesis in College/high school/basement will be pissing about with programming for these.

  • THIS IS EXCITING NEWS! Sorry about the drool - I'll clean up after myself but yeah I like this concept! It takes me back to the 80's with the Sinclair computers except this one is WAY More robust and contemporary. I am subscribing so I can keep up with this. APPLAUSE!

Hopefully it will support Ubuntu based Linux OS types as well?

  • when will they be available?

  • where can i buy one

  • The datasheet for the CPU BCM2835 IC chip is NOT available to the public!
