Just to prove that I'd done it, I recorded the moment I got the third sail up on my tod. As I say in the clip it may only have been 4 knots and the fenders were still out but it was quite an achievement for someone who has only been sailing for two years. I particularly like the shot of the bike chained to the mast!

  • Spot on, Hugo.

Life isn't safe, Froggie. With an attitude like yours why bother to ever leave your house? You might slip on some dog poo, fall into the road and get hit by a car.

  • The advantage of being able to sail on your own (yes, there are some) is that you can go out much more often. Quite selfish really but sometimes it can be difficult to co-ordinate with others. I did some RYA courses ten years ago and didn't do any sailing until the summer of this year when I sailed a Westerly Cirrus (bought on ebay) from Exeter to Amble in Northumberland on my own. A great way to learn is to just go out and do it. Within reason of course. The Bills were a bit hairy though.

  • Congrats from California!! No better feeling that one man against mother nature. Sail on bro!!

  • BRAVO!! Navigare in solitario e' una grande emozione; continua cosi'.

  • I like this guy's excitement and sense of pride ;) also his sense of intimidation, hence reefing a touch too early? but that's understandable! stop the crap about whether life is safe or better die in the middle of the ocean, unless you know this lad and tease him (in which case i shut my mouth) lol

    keep going mate, well done!!

  • awsome job man I have friends who are affraid to get on a plane because they may die I mean hell sailing is safer then driving in any car or plane I feel. I totally admre what you're doing

  • I hope your still having fun sailing solo. Ive been sailing single handed for 5 years and still cant wait to get on the water. Its the best feeling to make a passage of any distance be it 10 or 1000 miles, A bad day at sea is better than a good day at work.

  • good you man and you could of pulled out the genoa with no problem

  • Congrats, an achievement to be proud of!

  • You can't LIVE when you play safe!! Go for it my friend!!
