Correct, it's unbelievable when you hear it for the first time. Especially the downshifts are something you can barely hear on youtube video. But it gives you the feeling like there is a drum in your belly, and they sound like explosions, one after the other!

This is still dulled down by quite a bit, in real life you can feel the car shifting and the sound is just unbelievably loud.

In real life it's like 30000000000x louder. Seriously. I was standing beside my friend while the F1 cars were passing by our grandstand and was shouting at the top of my voice. Still he didnt hear a single shit. Spectators are given a health warning to get earplugs before the F1 race starts.
