Gorgeous did a great job for her first competition in Herding. It's a weekend I don't want to forget, so I compiled clips of both days into one video. I am so proud of Gorgeous... she always gives me 110% no matter what sport we do.

Watching this video, Herding may have the appearance of being easy... it isn't. It only looks easy when the dog and handler are trained to do their part. It took me over a year to get this far and again I can't say enough how proud I am of her. It will take many more months to get her to do all of this on her own without me with the sheep. (I don't have stock at home, so I train 3 maybe 4 times a month... that's why the length of time.)

I would like to thank Alan & Marie Koebke from Alamar Farm, who gave me the opportunity and instructions to be able to do what I have always dreamed of doing. Thank you both for keeping my dream alive!

  • what is the white thing in your hand

  • It's a stock stick. It becomes an extension of your arm.

  • why are you walking in front of the sheep?

who exactly is herding the sheep you or the dog

  • This is a Started Course which is mostly fetching where the handler should always be even or in front of the sheep and then the dog. You get points taken off if the sheep are ahead of you, their head's turn, they stop movement, they miss the obstacle and so on.

In some of Intermediate and the Advanced course, the handler will be directing the dog from the post and not walking with the sheep.

Started is just that... where you start. It appears easy until you try it.
