@FMaz, if smbd will have this issue, this is how i've solved it. pressed "e" key, when a keyboard (with human) image appears -> pressed F6 -> hit the "nomodeset" option -> hit Esc, then continued with installing. helped with Ubuntu 11.10, on HP Pavilion G6

did you fix this problem ? I have the same exact thing happening to me

I have the same problem right now, does anyone have a solution, and also I have tried pressing all of the F keys but nothing happens, I just have a blank screen and a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner
@FMaz Aaaah. Maybe not... Because you selected "Install Ubenu" Meaning it has to have a drive to look for. Im having the same problem with my windows xp. I used chkdsk /r. Recovered every file accept winload.exe. But anyways back to the point. It has to have a drive to look for and write on because its not going to install into a space that doesnt exist. So, Try buying a new hard drive. If you have a direct TV box with DVR. Theres a 160gigabyte Hard drive in there.
- Hope this also helped xD

Aah. This problem is easy to find. This could possibly be a bad hard drive (HDD).
Or it could be that you got a virus that killed your %SYSTEMDRIVE%. Anyways, If something deleted your %systemdrive% then there are 2 ways to fix it!
1: Find your current operating system install disk
2: Find and burn a disk with tools to recover Non allocated (Deleted) Files.
If you run windows. Find the recovery console disk and go into the recovery console and type Chkdsk /r.
-Hope this helped!

@chaos1sonic At this state no data should be copied on the hard drive. I didn't even choose what hard drive to use, and this was the Ubuntu boot disk ( That should work even with no harddrive plugged in).

I did try the safe mode, and it's exactly the same trouble.
