On the morning of January 26th, just after 6:30am, the tones went out for Hagerman to respond on a mutual aid to the Patchogue Fire Department for a working commercial structure fire on West Street. The warehouse was vacant at the time and was owned by Clare Rose Inc. Patchogue Fire Command pulled all units from the building at the very beginning and went into defensive operations "Surround and Drown" with 3 tower ladders. The building was scheduled to be taken down and the contractor had 6 pieces of heavy equipment inside the building and the priority was to remove the equipment to prevent the fuel and hydraulic tanks from rupturing. Once the equipment was removed, crews were finally able to make entry into the building with a portable deck gun and knock down a majority of the fire. The decision was made again to pull crews operating inside due the unstable roof. With all operations shut down, excavators began tearing into the building to open it up and get to the seat of fire which was located in a large refrigeration area in the middle of the warehouse.
Hagerman Chief's 30 and 31 along with Engine 6 responded to act as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) for crews operating at the scene. Fire Police Squad 8 also responded and assisted Patchogue Fire Department with traffic control. Crews had their hands full battling the snow and ice but in all Great Job was Done by All.
