The end of Doctor Gill in the Kikaider 01 OVA.

At this point in the story, Gil has put a submission circuit in Kikaider to make him evil and follow his orders. This conflicts with Kikaider Gemini (emotion) circuit. The face bijinder sees is her sister (Reiko - They were sister nursemaids developed to take care of Akira) who took care of Akira and who was killed by Armor Knight. Bijinder never cared for Akira but her sisters feelings and seeing a innocent child..

Now Akira was Gil's son who was mentally handicapped and Gil experimented on him constantly. Gil's son was just a tool. Pain and terror built up in Akira and Gil decided to put him inside his super weapon to use those negative emotions to fire it. Akira is also deathly afraid of robots. When Bijinder's sister died and Akira saw her as a robot and not a human, he froze up again. Rieko died protecting Akira and Bijinder was troubled by this.

This is Gil Hakaider who survived by taking over Hakaiders body and putting his brain in it.

This is a touching scene!

Kikaider learns that being a android with emotions doesn't make you human. One has to sin and deal with the sin to be fully human. Kikaider will now be tormented, the price of being human?

You have to wonder, in becoming human was pinocchio really happy?

Quite possibly the most emotion filled ending to any anime ever.

No matter how many times I see this scene I always tear up. The first time I watched it I was around 11 and I was bawling, it was the first anime that I watched that didn't have a happy ending. The music, coupled with the quotes from Pinocchio and Jiro's speech altogether just make up this heartwrenching, amazing ending.

@sn54 Well the animation was kind of based on the illustrations from a 1970's manga, you have to remember. Which was inspired by Pinnochio, Frankenstein, and Astro Boy. So it's a bit retro, but they do a great job capturing the feel of the source materials' aesthetics.
