Story basically follows the lyrics to the song.
Nick & Chelsea are dating when she meets Daniel who immediately catches her eye. Chelsea starts avoiding Nick to be with Daniel, and Nick finally catches the two together. He confronts Chelsea who admits to it and apologizes. Still, she can't stay away from Daniel which causes her break-up with Nick. She starts dating Daniel which kills Nick until he witnesses a moment between Daniel & Kate.
Nick tries to tell Chelsea the truth, but she doesn't believe him. She tells him that's she happy with Daniel & that Nick needs to move on. Upset, he leaves and meets Melanie. They start hanging out, but Nick can't keep his mind off Chelsea. Trying to stay hopeful, he tries to talk to Chelsea one last time, but she just refuses to listen.
Nick sees Daniel with Kate again, and wonders when Chelsea will finally realize what's going on. At the hospital, Chelsea sees Daniel hugging Kate and, remembering what Nick tried to tell her, wonders if there really is something going on. She confronts Daniel about it and the two get into an arguement which results in Daniel walking off.
Daniel starts avoiding Chelsea. She eventually walks in on Daniel with Kate which devastates her. Daniel apologizes saying he never meant to hurt her. Chelsea then realizes she made a big mistake in letting Nick go. She tries to win him back, but it's too late as he's moved on with Melanie.
