Some have called psychiatry a pseudo-science. A 1992 U.S. investigation is largely responsible for this label.
In 1992, U.S. Representative Patricia Schroeder of Colorado held hearings investigating the practices of psychiatric hospitals in the United States. Rep. Schroeder summarized her committee's findings as follows:

"Our investigation has found that thousands of adolescents, children, and adults have been hospitalized for psychiatric treatment they didn't need;

--that hospitals hire bounty hunters to kidnap patients with mental health insurance;

--that patients are kept against their will until their insurance benefits run out;

--that psychiatrists are being pressured by the hospitals to increase profit;

--that hospitals 'infiltrate' schools by paying kickbacks to school counselors who deliver students; that bonuses are paid to hospital employees, including psychiatrists, for keeping the hospital beds filled;

--and that military dependents are being targeted for their generous mental health benefits. I could go on, but you get the picture"

(that was quoted in: Lynn Payer, Disease- Mongers: How Doctors, Drug Companies, and Insurers Are Making You Feel Sick, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1992, pp. 234-235).

Now back to 2011. Has anything changed? Here are some current psychiatric headlines:

--The Psychiatric Abuse of the Elderly

‎--State Says Berlin Psychiatrist Overprescribed Medication

‎--Psychiatric Abuse Charges Confirmed

--Easing Anxiety With Drugs, Drink May Lead to Addiction

‎--Another Health Canada Warning Against Psychiatric Drugs

‎--Psychiatrists Need to Better Monitor Meds' Metabolic Side Effects

‎--Problems of Overdiagnosis and Overprescribing in ADHD

‎--Mainstream psychiatry is failing -- but there is another way

Lots to think about, heh? I'm not a medical professional. So, as always, please do your own research into these topics.

  • I will agree that maybe many psychiatrists make mistakes but I think that for the majority of them try hard for their patiends.People who are kept in hospitals are kept by authority of a court not by psychiatrists.The drugs they use maybe with a lot of problems but the alternative is serious dissabling disease. People don't be hatefull.Peace

  • My friends on disability cuz of this shit!

  • @zerogod420

    my ex-pharmawhore (psychiatrist) screwed me up beyond any description of human language with that drug.

    i took myself off of it (after my "doctor" told me she wanted to INCREASE my dosage), a little over 2 years ago. and i'm still trying to recover from it.

    I would love to get 3 or 4 days in a locked room with my ex-pharmawhore, a pair of pliers and a blow torch and do to her physically, what she did to me.

  • @mariopatai i know that but i didnt know at the time... it was more than 6 years ago.... i am aware of the greed which comes from corporations.

  • @InternalMind why are you even trusting that fucking disgusting doctor who is just nodding her head and waiting for you to become a human robot? the more pills she writes the more money she makes. 75% of doctors today are all involved with cults that don't care about anybody but themselves.

  • @InternalMind

    im having the same problem it sucks

  • @zerogod420 same here... olanzapine for 6 years, i find it hard to concentrate on important things, it was bad before the meds but now it's worse. i asked the doc if it would help me focus on things n she just nodded her head n carried on writing. and the last doc after 6 years told me that i shoudnt have been takin the meds, and that it could give permenant brain damage.

  • the person who clicked the reaction "funny" should be put in a cell with mentally ill people who are full of uncontrollable rage.

  • happin to me druged me up on risperidone im hoping i go back to normal
