Iceland's super-volcano threatens to erupt

Volcanic eruptions in Iceland are capable of affecting air traffic across Europe, as the Eyjafjallajokull volcano showed by grounding flights for a week in 2010.
Now, recent tremors around the much larger Katla volcano indicate that it may be nearing eruption as well. Experts are concerned that such an event could bring global travel disruptions and flooding from melted glaciers.
Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports from southern Iceland.

Iceland is a volcano.A big plume is under the ground.There is no supervolcano in Iceland.The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull is nothing!Less than 1 kub.km!Don't forget Tambora...Or Pinatubo at least.

@kurtilein3 Exactly. In fact there wouldnt be Iceland without volcanoes. But human beings have always been silly cherry-pickers. Thats why they are in such a mess.

The ash is a bit annoying in the short term, but it also re-fertilizes the land. A little layer of ash is good news for forests and farmers, it brings nutrients. Its just the airlines that dont like it.
