@ZemplinTemplar Wow! Thanks for the info. I love the RS cover but really would have loved Burg's illustration on it instead. It would be nice if he could illustrate Reynold's future covers. I've been reading a lot of Philip K. Dick for the last year or so and now I'm ready to get back into some Space Opera. I'm thinking about checking out Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy.
@dhannyboy86 I thought so too, but it doesn't fit the overall description given in the book. It was more conical, with two smaller conical nacelles (or whatever) at the sides in the back. The ship on the cover of Galactic North fits it a bit better. Still, you can google "Steve Burg Nostalgia for Infinity", if you like - you'll find a pretty awesome illustration of the Nostalgia based on the description alone, done by Steve Burg (former Babylon 5 concept artist for the human ships).
@dhannyboy86 Also, there's a Revelation Space forum ... Youtube won't let me link it from here, but if you want to discuss the books with fans, Google for Revelation Space forum and you'll see the Revelation Space Portal a few results down the page.
There's a link on the main page to the forums about RS and other books by Reynolds.
@dhannyboy86 In the books, Reynolds describes the Nostalgia for Infinity as having a conical hull about 4km long, with twin drives on a pair of struts. Lots of times, artists get the cover art wrong for SF and fantasy books, and this was Reynolds' first book, so maybe that's what happened.
I thought maybe the cover art of RS was a misinterpretation of ships docked at the Rust Belt, but who knows? It could also be the ship Sylveste took to the "revelation space" of the Shrouders.
@GozerTheGozerian Wow, Thanks for the info. I love these three books and rarley get to talk about them with anyone else who has read them. Where could I find Reynolds description?
@dhannyboy86 The ship on the cover of Redemption Ark is the "Storm Bird," aka the ship belonging to Antoinette Bax with the illegal alpha-level simulation, "Beast," as the ship's persona.
The ship on the cover of Absolution Gap is the "Scavenger's Daughter," Quaiche's personal ship which he takes from the lighthugger Dominatrix and discovers Hela.
And the ship on the cover of Revelation Space is supposed to be the Nostalgia for Infinity, but Reynolds describes it much differently.
I've always assumed that the Nostalgia for Infinity was on the cover of Revelation Space and that the Zodiacal Light was on the cover of Redemption Ark
