Sue Wells from the Christchurch City Council joins Megan Banks on the Good Living show to talk about the Council's current position with regards to building demolition following the Christchurch earthquake.
Wells urges owners of character and heritage buildings to not see demolition as the first option but rather to work with the council to try and strengthen buildings. Extra funding is currently being sourced to help owners save these buildings where possible.
She also warns people that no building can demolished without the Council's consent, regardless of whether it is classed as a character/heritage building or not.

I would have preferred the council spent the $17 million on earthquake strengthening of historic buildings rather than giving it to their mate. Sue was in full agreement to the bail out, bye bye Sue
