Chengdu (成都), located in southwest People's Republic of China, is the capital of Sichuan province and a sub-provincial city. Chengdu is also one of the most important economic centers, transportation and communication hubs in Western China. According to the 2007 Public Appraisal for Best Chinese Cities for Investment, Chengdu was chosen as one of the top ten cities to invest in out of a total of 280 urban centers in China.
More than four thousand years ago, the prehistorical Bronze Age culture of Jinsha (金沙) established itself in this region. The fertile Chengdu Plain, on which Chengdu is located, is called Tianfuzhi guo (天府之国) in Chinese, which literally means "the country of heaven", or more often seen translated as "the Land of Abundance". It was recently named China's 4th-most livable city by China Daily.

成都的气候属亚热带季风型气候，由于四周高山环绕，又呈典型的盆地气候。春天来得早，通常在春节前后就春暖花开。夏天由于盆地原因比较闷热，秋天凉爽宜人，冬天无严寒霜冻。全年平均气温在16℃～18℃。每年7、8两月是雨季，春季和冬季少雨，冬天的气温极少低于5℃。一年四季日照少、多雾少风。
成都最佳的旅游时间是3月至6月、9月至11月。但7、8月最热的时候，成都附近的青城山、西岭雪山、九龙沟、九峰山、天台山、龙池森林公园等都是最理想的避暑胜地。冬天上龙池森林公园、西岭雪山欣赏雪景也是南方省区难得的好时机。
