I totally agree! Back in when I first started listening to Acappella and AVB I thought that but learned later that its all voices and no instruments.

I think that Tim Storms is as close as I have heard to JD as far as depth to his voice. Where he loses out is when he goes below a double low C, then he loses the timbre in his voice and just flattens out.
