This multi-function work table was designed to grant wheelchair users greater flexibility and comfort when reading and writing. At the time of writing, there does not exist an affordable and dependable wheelchair add-on which allows for adjustable writing and reading inclines. The various postures that must be assumed by wheelchair users when using traditional tables and desks are not ergonomic and can lead to unnecessary strain of back and neck muscles. Our device was designed to solve these issues.
This device was designed for use with the Permobil Chairman 3000® and a user with ALS. As such, the mount was designed specifically for this model of chair, but a different mount could easily be adapted for other chairs. With ALS, muscle strength is a factor to consider, so our material selections had to be lightweight yet sturdy.
