This garden was designed for the proposed Coffs Harbour community garden project using permaculture concepts with companion planting and organic methods. After seeing the full version of this video (10 mins) the Coffs Harbour council members went from being not really interested to being completely supportive and approving the proposal with a unanimous "yes"!

The design and presentation was also instrumental in gaining support of the community, in fact changing the atmosphere from at times aggressively negative to actively supportive.

Coffs Harbour will now have an entirely organic, permaculture designed community garden for everyone to share and enjoy! A big win for organic growing!

  • I feel the 3-D rendering a powerful component in showing the owner(s) the final product, as otherwise it can be difficult to get the design vision across. What 3-D rendering software did you use in this case? What 3-D rendering software do you recommend or warn against? Thanks

  • @AbundantTomorrow It really depends on your needs, budget etc. We needed something that was adaptable for permaculture and Australian flora so we needed flexibility. This is an American 3-D landscape program but we can take photos of plants and add them ourselves. We have heard there may be specific permaculture programs being developed which would be fantastic for planning communities, towns & cities. I suggest you make a list of your needs and research the products available. Good Luck!

  • I love the design... especially the Tuscan Kale (?) bordering the inner garden... yummy :D And the Japanese inspired shade thingee. Is this the plan for the community garden? How much would you say a garden like this would cost to build?

  • @WokenSleepWalker This is a concept design only. We created it with the consultation of the few people that were originally involved to inspire the vision. It is very much subject to change with community input and volunteer skills. For instance they are now creating a child friendly section due to a very valid comment from a local mother. The cost will depend on materials & skills available, donated and volunteered. It will be an ongoing process but so well worth while.

  • Very nice, what materials are you using to get the curve on the outer circle. The design looks like railroad ties?

  • @Helegh Hi Helegh, I am assuming you are asking about the central mandala? yes originally this was designed to use railroad sleepers. The garden is now under construction and they have used bricks in order to raise the beds high enough for people in wheelchairs to gain access. They had a free brick laying workshop and 30 people attended to create the mandala. Designed as a concept only to show council and the public , materials will change due to availability and public needs and responses.

  • @Rhinoch8 Hi! thanks for your comment. The pathways are designed to have wheelchair access.

  • Very Nice! But aren't the path a little too broad?

  • @callmeyang Thanks so much! Using this 3-D visual enables us to collate and present everyones needs, wants and ideas to those that need clear planning such as councils etc. Also once viewed, we can make changes without huge capitol outlay. The potential is enormous. We could see future city's designed with organic food forests incorporated into it! We are so ready for the adventure!!!!Bring it on!!!

  • very good visualisation for permaculture design. Best i have seen so far. Definably the way forward! well done.
