After washing the car I decided to do some maintenace to the car before the weather got too hot. Initially I wanted to see if there was a cheap fix for squeaky brakes. I figured the rotors on the disc brakes were glazed from a hard brake done a year ago.

I searched youtube for a cheap fix but instead found out how many bolts, time, and effort went to changing the rotor and brake pads. I thought if I could do one wheel a day it wouldn't be so bad. Before starting the project I wanted to determine which brake was louder so I used my phone to record each side. The results were equal but I noticed the engine noise was fairly loud as well.

I researched what was making the sound and found that it was the lifters in the engine. That seemed like a lot of work too and I didn't feel like getting my hads dirty. Furthermore I didn't want to reassemble the engine incorrectly and have it towed to a mechanic.

I ran across a forum for geo metros and found that people were happy about using "seafoam" and that it lowered their lifter noise. I looked it up on youtube and saw a funny video where they poured seafoam directly into the air intake beneath the air filter. A ton of smoke was produced and it looked funny to me.

I decided to go to auto zone and see how much it cost. It was 8.99 on sale which compelled me to buy it. I told the cashier that I was going to apply the seafoam in front of the store. The cashier had no problem with it so I did.

I put 1/3 of the can in the crank case where you fill up the oil, 1/3 of it in the gas tank, and 1/3 in the air intake. I was tripple penetrating the car in all intakes.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the accelerator cable that would enable me to rev the engine while pouring the fluid down the throat of the car so I had to do it while the car idled. It took me 5-10 minutes... After choking the car 5 times I tapered the stream to the point it resonated the engine at 200 rpm. This low vibration caused the engine to vibrate violently for the duration of the pour.

In the mean time customers were walking into the store having to go through thick white smoke and hearing some crazy guy choke is car. A bunch of guys in a lifted truck pulled up next to me during the smoke and when they left (I was still pouring) they peeled out through my thick cloud of smoke. I thought it was pretty funny. I think the smoke got me a little light-headed too.

After pouring the seafoam I used the bathroom and washed my hands. I wanted to have the car sit for 5 min before driving. When I drove the car there was not a whole lot of smoke but I noticed the engine was running smoother and it seemed more quiet.

Remembering that I shot video of the engine before the seafoam, I wanted to shoot the same shot and see if there was a difference. There was... The crazy thing was that the seafoam seemed to fix my brakes too.

This was the best $8.99 I EVER spent!
