I just spent a couple hours cleaning my fan. The good news is that my fan no longer sounds like a blender. The bad news is that one of my ribbon cables broke so my power button no longer works. Luckily I can still start the laptop with the quickplay button. Also I cut cut my finger disconnecting a cable and came dangerously close to bleeding all over my motherboard.

Huh, well at least your laptop won't melt-down now! Well done! Those ribbon cables are rubbish - one of them went in my keyboard recently, so I had to replace the keyset....

He's saying "part" as in "to part from". Thermal paste is used to ensure good conductive contact between the two and when you break the seal, after taking the heat sink off the processor, you'll need to clean re-apply new paste to ensure good contact again. The casing on the fan is connected to the heat sink, which sits on top of the processor and graphics card so in order to remove the fan from its casing you have to remove the whole lot, thus meaning you're "sadly" going to need thermal paste.

pls psl pls don't use a vacuum, you can fry your laptop/computer unless you're using an ESD safe vacuum. you'll get away with it 9 times outta ten, but is it really worth taking the chance? check out my best practices vid if you want to "clean the fan" with with out taking the laptop apart. Sorry for the plugging a vid here but it worries me when I see ppl mention vacuum.
