This is the translation I made of the conversation between an unkown officer of Livorno Coast Guard departement and the crew of Costa Concordia. This radio communication happened at 10:12 p.m. and is the 1st of the three (official) radio communications of Costa Concordia. I'm still searching for the first one happened around 9.49 p.m. If you'd find it I would be glad if you let me know.

  • Sorry..ran out of space.

    The family interviewed on TV said they SAW Schettino run past them (with other officers) very early-on (not many passengers had evacuated yet).

    As near as I can figure, Schettino (and other officers) had left the ship by 10:30pm..but according to your time-line. he was out of there much sooner than that. THAT would mean that (possibly) only 100 - 200 passengers had evacuated so far.

    ..and I STiLL don't get why/when he sat down and had dinner. Do you?

  • @is2daytuesday No one of these facts had been confirmed so far. There are several version of where was Schettino before and after the accident. Probably the best thing to do is wait for inquiry results. It seems confirmed, by the way, that the u-turn was an unwilling "tailspin", caused by strong currents. I'm uploading two new video: one is a reconstruction of costa concordia accident and the second one is an amatorial video of Captain Schettino announcement during the accident.

  • @is2daytuesday i ran out of space too ahah. Anyway, there are even some witnesses that assure that Schettino was on board during the whole emergency procedure. Some are accusing Coast Guard too, 'cause it seems that this illegal habit of approaching the mainland to give a tribute to someone was repeated many times and had never been fined. Again, the best way to analize this situation is waiting for VDR data (= Black Boxes data) and the inquiry.

  • @is2daytuesday p.s. i'm doing my best and i'm working harder only on recordings translation so you can have an objective point of view of the accident. I'm sorry but i'm not looking forward to upload any interview video as sometimes they are unreliable :)

  • Yes. Of course you are right. Nothing is black vs white..plenty of grey area with all this. Costa/Canival doesn't look so bad when they can make certain Schettino is demonized.

    Since all liners have many survelience video cameras (inside and out)..why don't they use those for their investigation..better yet, show them to US and we will get to the bottom of it all.
