"The Liberty Song": The words were written by John Dickinson in 1768, in the years leading up to the American Revolution. The music is a British march "Heart of Oak".

There are various versions of the lyrics. The ones I used are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Liberty_Song

The melody is here, though I didn't exactly follow it: http://www.americanrevolution.org/washmusic/gwmusic4.gif

I'm quite critical of my own singing. I had a hard time hitting some low notes, but couldn't play up a key because I was already at my limit for high notes :) . Also, I guess I don't enunciate well, because I couldn't even understand myself when I watched the video haha. I've added subtitles to help you out :)

I guess I should have propped the lyrics up next to the camera, so it wouldn't be obvious I was reading them :)

Come, join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
And rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call;
No tyrannous acts shall suppress your just claim,
Or stain with dishonor America's name.
Chorus:
In Freedom we're born and in Freedom we'll live.
Our purses are ready. Steady, friends, steady;
Not as slaves, but as Freemen our money we'll give.
Our worthy forefathers, let's give them a cheer,
To climates unknown did courageously steer;
Thro' oceans to deserts for Freedom they came,
And dying, bequeath'd us their freedom and fame.
Chorus
The tree their own hands had to Liberty rear'd,
They lived to behold growing strong and revered;
With transport they cried, Now our wishes we gain,
For our children shall gather the fruits of our pain.
Chorus
Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall;
In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed,
For heaven approves of each generous deed.
Chorus

  • I never heard this song before but I like it, well done! Was wondering why the electric guitar seems not to be plugged in?

  • @finlarg Thanks for your comment :) As for the guitar, I wanted a more acoustic sound, but I don't have an acoustic guitar.

  • wow! I din't know you could sing. You're pretty good :D
