"Over There" was published in 1917 when the U.S. entered the Great War. It was so popular that it was sung again when the U.S. entered World War II in 1941.

This was the conclusion of the WWI set at the 2007 West Coast Ragtime Festival in Sacramento, California.

Ann Gibson, vocals; Frederick Hodges, piano.

  • dude this girls sucks. georgie is the only person wh can do this

  • Never mind that he's dead? I don't think he even recorded this tune himself.

  • Fine song by a true pro.....It's a pity we don't have such influences telling our kids not to go and kill someone elses kids....or be killed themselves.....

  • Follow the trail of video responses back and you'll find the video called "WW1 Songs Pro & Con sung by Ann Gibson" -- the second of which is an anti-war song from the period.

  • Thanks for that lead .....they're wonderful performances!!!......And it's a crying shame, generally , they didn't invalidate my point - a great pity..........though there are some great anti war songs they're never delivered with that kind of urgenct ...and they should be I feel . Ann and co are great though.....why haven't I heard of them I wonder

  • Ragtime performers tend only to be promoted within ragtime circles. There are many people who enjoy the music (and more who would if they heard it) but are unaware of what's out there simply from lack of promotion. This is why so many performers enjoy having some of their performances here on YouTube where people who might not otherwise have known about them -- or even that there is a ragtime scene -- can discover them.
