Shawn Kung, Senior Director of Product Management for Aster Data Systems, explains the similarities and differences between In-Database MapReduce and file-only MapReduce systems like Hadoop. As Kung explains, the implementations often co-exist, but an enterprise-class In-Database MapReduce implementation combines the rich expressivity of Mapreduce with the rich features and manageability of SQL-based relational databases. In-Database MapReduce is a feature included in the high-performance Aster nCluster analytic SQL database.
