  • Does anyone know what year john avila (bassist) joined this band??

  • @bongnbud John Avila took over for Kerry Hatch in 1985

  • Are you sure the inspiration isn't from Animal Farm?

  • I would have thought so, too. Plus, maybe even connections with some of Jack London's work. But Danny inserted a clip from the movie "Island of Lost Souls" (an adaptation of the H. G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau) before this song in the '93 Halloween concert so he must have been inspired to write the song from that.

  • The lyrics to this song were inspired by the H.G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is about a mad scientist on a remote island who conducts horrific experiments on animals, turning them into man-like creatures. Devo's "Jocko Homo" was also inspired by Dr. Moreau.

  • Steve Bartek = GENIUS GUITARIST.

  • @conjeel Nothing to do with Animal Farm--nothing. Both the phrase House of Pain and What is the Law are directly from H.G. Wells Island of Dr. Moreau.

  • Island of lost souls is inspiration or later film Island of Dr. Momroe

  • For the people saying it's 100% inspired by Animal Farm, could you please explain "the House of Pain"? Because that's from The Island of Dr. Moreau...

  • Steve is awesome!! And super cute with his cool hair =)

  • Oingo and the Plimsouls played at my high school gym in 81

  • @cacamille Richard Gibbs and Kerry Hatch (bass player) left the band and formed Zuma 2 (or maybe Zuma II). I actually saw them perform in clubs in LA after they formed in that band. Timeline would be around 1985-ish?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong when they left Oingo Boingo. Not sure what happened after that.

  • I think richard gibbs was their best synth player, wonder what happened
