River Rock Homemade Laser Pointer

I made this laser pointer from the flashlight River Rock which can be found at Target for $10 near the power tools. I removed the LED from the flashlight and put in place the diode (16x dvd burner) which is housed inside of the Aixiz module. The laser can be focused and runs off of 2 AAA batteries. It will need a heatsink so it can have a longer duty cycle of over 30 seconds.

I made a Laser pointer using a LED from DVD burner. Its so stronk (compared a 5mW Laser pointer I have too).

The problem is: I used the diode connected at 2AA bateries directly, and after 10 minutes using, this 'burn'. Not function more... I test and he really broken. You use some circuit to control current in LED or not? He function long time?

apart from a DVD burner, can i use a CD disc burney diode? or must it be dvd? what a bout a normal CD/ROM? what about the power? 1.5V AA batteries X 2?

May I sugest a test. I know that the 5mW diode alone without lens hane a week light. For camewra the light of a focused laser of 5mW compared to 250mW is not so different. Why not compare the difused light (without lens) of a 5mW laser and a 250mW laser?

Hi. If it'sa a 250mW (16x/18x DVD burner) why took so long to blown-up the balloon? I had see lasers made from 8x DVD recorder that apparently had stronger effect than this one.
