If apple releases this new iPod Touch people could begin using Wifi to talk and text, if known how to use that way, but the iPhone 3g can get internet anywhere, that would be the only reason to pay around 100-300$ for the Phone and a 80$+ per month bill instead of a single price of (guesstimate) $299.99, gratz on the honors also =]
