The majority of those murders are by gang members, not by just your average gun owner going out and acting like Yosemite Sam. And of that 8k people killed by firearms 300 were killed by police, and even less by lawful self defense. Gun control in this country started after the civil war and was intended to deny the newly freed slaves of their 2nd amendment right. It has never been about gun control, it is about people control. I agree with Billy, doing a comparison between countries doesn't work. Different people, politics, size of population and distribution, government and legislative format, individual rights, types of crime and punishment (deterrent). Apples and oranges. Since the subject is crime, legislation and TRUE understanding of the dynamics in the United States only, I think it's important to point out, the over simplified conclusions that most "news" media report now days really isn't a realistic view.

as for the 99% of gun owners, i dont give two shits about them and their little toys, i care about the 0.0000 whatever psychos who have stupidly easy access to guns due to the 99% and then go murder 20 kids in a school because of it.

the 99% might not be out shooting anyone but they are giving easy access to criminals and psychos to get weapons, this is why you have so many mass shootings and gun murders, any other country would be rioting by now.

I would disagree also with what you say. 2 of the biggest mass murders that happened in the US were not with firearms. Tim McViegh and Jim Jones they killed over 1000 people. The massacre at Newtown (however heinous) does not compare to the amount of casualties (men, women, children) that were at these. I mean over 3000 American were killed with 2 planes. Criminals will always find ways to kill people. The children in China were lucky.

I don't think that is true. I looked up what you are stating and the definition change is implying that anybody can be raped (which I agree with.) But I think that you are lying to your self if you think that male rapes increase the crime rate by 15x. I tried to find what you said about the CDC and I could find nothing, but I am pretty sure it is safe to say that females are raped far far more than males. And it is going to down any way.

Whether the FBI counts only 4 types of violent crime is irrelevant. The point is that crime is naturally going down. The homicide to gun ratio in the US is approximately .0003% That is really low. Why would you punish the rest of the 99% when laws in place are not even enforced. Try enforcing the current laws and see if that works before you make hasty generalization.

also, as a side note, over half of all violent crime in England and Wales results in no injury.

in the UK there are over 48 seperate crimes which are deemed violent by the police, the ONS who are in charged of national statistics then also include all forms of sexual assault, the FBI in america only counts 4 crimes. this is the only reason why we have higher violent crime; you are comparing 4 crimes to over 50.

not to mention, since the 1995(the handgun ban coming into effect in 1997) violent crime has fallen 53%,total crime more than halved and homicide is the lowest its been in 30 years
