Metroid NES 100% Walkthrough Part 1

This video is tool assisted but is not meant to be viewed as a perfectly optimized professional piece of work specialized for the fastest 100% completion.

Game completion is 51 minutes, for which I spent about a week working on, frame by frame, savestate by savestate.

There are a few shortcuts that I used during the making of this run, a few examples being the energy tank after Kraid, which is extremely hard but not impossible (as shown) without the high jump boot, some double/triple/many bomb jump used rather than "The long way around."

This run is meant for the newest of noobs to the seasoned veterans of the game. If you are looking for the fastest completion of the game (7 minutes and something) please check tasvideos.org

I would like to thank Martucus for his textual walkthough/speed guide, which I actually used during my first non-TAS completion of metroid.

For the varia suit I thought you just needed to time your shots. So that the green thing follows you. Then freeze him.

That's how I always did it.

@AKrindleProduction I have also done it that way, and the double bomb jump is easy once you know how. Doing it diagonally was just for show, and now I see that I shouldn't have done it that way. While doing this run I didn't mean for a lot of people to follow it the same way as I.

I will be uploading a new video as a response to this one that will show a better route at the beginning of the game that takes you into Norfair to get the high jump boots for all those who are unable to get the varia suit through bomb jumping.

Is it possible to do that bomb jump followed by a normal jump to get the Varia without any tool assistance? I keep trying on my old NES cartridge, and I'm not sure if it's impossible or if I'm just not using the right button combo to get the normal jump after the bomb jump.

@SwordGrayskull You can also just do a regular double bomb jump then jump towards the door.

@weirwindle111 Thanks for the help, as well as all the new posts detailing the bomb jump and alternate ways to get the Varia. I'm familiar with the Norfair/High Jump method you mentioned since that's the way Nintendo Power recommended back in the day, but your way saves a whole lot of time.

Too hard boobeeboo? Welcome to a time where games actually had some challenge instead of auto-regerating health and an easy (or even a very easy mode..). A time where you would sit around the console with your friends trying to beat that stage or boss taking turns. A time where game design seemed to much more solid. Welcome to the golden age of games (NES/SNES/Genesis/Saturn).

@weirwindle111 I tried the double-bomb jump method this afternoon ... and it worked! :D The key is the timing. For me, I said aloud, "One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand;" on the first "one," lay Bomb #1. Lay Bomb #2 as you reach the "nd" sound of the first thousand. On "two," lay Bomb #3. On "three," press Up on the D-pad simultaneously with the jump button. Thank you for all the help!

This game is still way too hard. I think I'll skip over to metroid 2 :)
