Welcome to the official video for the Midlands First Responders Memorial.

The memorial stands for resolve and honor of those First Responders who gave their lives in New York on September 11, 2001, and every First Responder from the Midlands of South Carolina who has given their for their life for their Community and Country since that day.

The Memorial includes a pair of 25 foot granite towers, standing all above the memorial plaza. Between the towers are a pair of beams from the World Trade Center, which are crossed to symbolize the unity of the United States after the attacks.

In addition to various passages and information throughout the memorial plaza, it contains the name of every First Responder from the Midlands that has made the ultimate sacrifice.

There is no way to thank those heroes or the families they left behind, but they know, as they now man the eternal squad room, firehouse, and post, that we will forever be thankful and honor them.

The unveiling ceremony was on September 11, 2011 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, and featured speakers including Governor Nikki Haley, Mayor Steve Benjamin, project leader Dan Hennigen, and other esteemed speakers. The event was emceed by Tyler Ryan.

This project was brought to reality from the hard work of many community members and business leaders in the Midlands of South Carolina, who over the course of 6 months, completed the memorial with an estimated cost of $750,000.
