A gust of wind smashed into Selena's face as she stepped out of her car. The smell of leaves and pine danced around her as she grabbed her bag from the seat next to her and shut the car door. Dragging her feet, she headed towards the school. She wasn't ready to face day yet, or Demi, or Nick, but most of all Zac. She knew she was going to have to explain herself to her friends and try to defend herself against any accusations Zac made.

But it was seeing Nick that terrified her the most. Selena had spent most of the night with crowded thoughts of Nick's face after she had pulled away from that kiss. He trusted her with so much and she was pulling him along like this was some sort of game. Whatever Nick is involved with is real though, and it's dangerous.

Selena set her bag at her feet as she turned the dial of her lock. After pulling it off she examined the row of books neatly organized inside. Searching for her calculus book, she jumped when she heard a figure stop right next to her.

Turning her head, she sighed in relief as she saw Demi, "Gosh you scared me."

"Sorry." Demi mumbled, a frown spread across her face.

"What happened to you? I thought you'd still be happy from last night."

"I was, until I realized I didn't say one word to Joe last night, at all."

"Well maybe-"

"I mean it was his party for Christ's sake," Demi wailed, "how could be not even come and say hi to me."

Selena shrugged helplessly, "When did you leave?"

"Around 10, I had some homework I didn't finish.

"Wait, so you never saw me after we met up?" She questioned.

"Uh no," Demi rose an eyebrow curiously, "Did something happen?"

"No." Selena started, "I actually left before you." She shut her locker and the two easily stepped into motion together.

"Oh," Demi held out as she tried to think things through. "Wait, why were you even there again?"

"I-I" Selena stammered, "I had to meet Taylor there." She thought up quickly, "I had to clarify some things about a project with him."

"But you guys only have calculus together." Demi pointed out suspiciously

"Yeah, it's a project for calculus." Selena clarified, hoping Demi would believe her.

"A project for calculus," Demi repeated, "interesting."

"Nick." Selena called out as a class of students all piled out the door. Nick turned around and waited for Selena to catch up, "Could we talk?" She asked.

"Sure, but I don't really know what more you have to say." Nick grumbled as he stared down at his feet.

"Listen Nick." Selena reached up and grabbed his arm, stopping him in his spot, "Hold on." Before Nick could answer she pulled him into the janitors' closet and shut the door, "Look I'm sorry about what happened last night, you were trying to talk to me about something serious and I was totally just blowing you off."

Nick licked his lips before beginning, "Listen Selena, I liked you and I still like you, surprisingly" He paused for a moment, "And I don't think I've let anyone in like I've let you. But you're fragile, and I get that-"

"Nick I'm not asking you to look after me, I can handle myself." She asserted.

"God Selena you just don't get it." Nick hissed, rubbing the temples on the side of his head.

"Nick I understand." Selena responded sternly, "And I'm tired of everyone thinking I'm some sort of baby whose hand needs to be held, I can fend for myself."

He rolled his eyes in annoyance, "I get that Selena, but what you can't seem to comprehend is that there are people out there who want to hurt you." Nick blurted out.

"What are you talking about Nick." She questioned.

"I didn't want to have to tell you, but they know about you. Someone must have told them, but either way I can't just let you go now. You're my responsibility." Nick declared.

Selena stayed silent for a moment, trying to pick her words carefully, "This stuff you do, it's serious; isn't it?"

"You're not going to get hurt Sel, I promise. I just want to be able to keep an eye on you; that's all."

"And that kiss last night," she suddenly brought up, feeling a moment of bravery. "Do you want to talk about that at all?"

"You were the one who kissed me, right?" Nick pointed out, smirking to himself.

"Yeah, but you kissed back." Selena argued.

"Eh... you would have done the same thing." He challenged.

Placing her hands on her hip, she tried to hide her smile, "No I-"

Before she could say another word Nick grabbed the side of her arms and crashed his lips on her. He could feel her arms go weak, causing him to quickly place one hand behind her waist.

Nick grinned as he pulled away, "Now I'm pretty sure you just kissed back."

"I was," Selena stammered as she tried to catch her breath.

"Its fine," Nick replied coolly, now we're even."
