This is a video of the teslacoil from www.liquidfire.cc. This time, I didn't turn off the lights.
The coil uses a full bridge of IRG4PC50 IGBTs with direct feedback. There are no gate drive ICs, just the feedback transformers itself and a few passive components.
The power is halfwave rectified 230 V / 50 Hz mains, switched by a SCR.
The spark length is only about 50 cm (20").
I think it's very similar to the SSTC 3.8 or SSTC 3.9 from teslacoil.net.

  • Can you use Higher BPS on that coil?

  • With this design it is hard to increase BPS due to the excessive current draw from the mains and the heating of the components. The heating issue can be solved by using bigger heat sinks and fan. It seems that our circuit breaker averages the current in some way, so a overcurrent for one half-cycle is okay for a low break rate, but it will trigger when using a higher break rate. To solve this, you would need a power supply with some caps inside, but this would make the driver more complicated.

  • oops sorry, I didnt see the link to the liquidfire website...

  • Hi,

    very nice sparks.

How its done or can I see the schematic?

    teslacoil . net is down.

    Thanks

  • it looks like lightning

  • Thanks for keeping the lights on this time! It looks really neat.
