  • When?

  • @Fairfaxcat Mid-'77.

  • I love old news but man, that was an ugly as hell news set.

  • @albear972 The set that 3's got now is better than what they had in the '70s.

  • Lol that guy in the orange looks thoroughly pissed. That music kicked ass. RIP Telesound.

  • Big Al (one in the orange) was very pissed off at the end of that newscast.

  • Well he realizes he's stuck in the 70s wearing an orange sweater and in an entirely brown studio for life! The music is good though.

  • "When is a massage parlor NOT a massage parlor?" lol, I love that!

  • Wish someone would have Channel 10's coverage of Hurricane Agnes with Jack and John Facenda. It was on here many moons ago. I remember the commerical for that Chevrolet dealership on Route 1 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania!

  • When I heard them say: "When is a massage parlor not a massage parlor?" I thought it was a riddle, such as "When is a door not a door?"

  • just like Jerry Turner and Al Sanders at sister station WJZ

  • Wow does this bring back memories. I actually remember watching this very program and the Hickey tease too! LOL

For the time this format was very advanced and fast paced in everyway. When they started tinkering with it the cohesiveness that was so important went away. The folks at WPVI knew this secret with Action News.

If you knew Philly news you knew that Big Al (sports) dressed like this on purpose as it was part of his "character"! Sure it was a bit corney but folks immediately focused,

  • Excuse me, he was IN the 70's when this was recorded? How could he have been "stuck" in a time when they were in the current moment? BTW they did get to see the 80's and some got to see the 90's too. They did see change.

  • But they were NOT horrible for the time and technology of the time.

Its so easy to sit in 2009 and say how horrible things were in 1977 but if you lived in 1977 we thought this stuff was cool. Of course things have advanced since then.

Today we are spoiled by the laziness that technology and years of practice from previous generations have left for us.
