Samuel's Story

The people of Israel have now settled in the land. The land God promised to them through Abraham.

God had led them out of slavery, freed them from the Egyptian empire. This was the story of the exodus. Judges had ruled over the people. They did their best, but the people wanted a King like the other nations. They were pushy and got what they wanted. King Saul. But he messed up big time and God had rejected him as King.

God told Samuel, the prophet and last Judge of Israel, to go and anoint one of Jesse's sons to be king - while King Saul was still alive. This was risky business. Samuel agrees and heads off to the house of Jesse.
